Peter Ball
Exa was founded in June 2000 by its current Managing Director and majority shareholder, Mr Peter Ball. Peter has been working in the IT/Online industry for over 26 years since studying at Melbourne's Swinburne University from 1982 to 1985 for his Bachelor of Applied Science (Majoring in Computer Science and Chemistry). Peter is a down to earth businessman with high energy and enthusiasm. Peter believes in partnering with strong, competent and experienced professionals that are true experts in their field, every single manager and team leader at Exa MUST exceed this hurdle. Peter is also personally very capable in most facets of business, including Business Management and Administration, Finance and Accounting, HR, Sales and Marketing, Strategy & Planning, Project Management, Customer Service and I.T.
Peter is currently studying for his MBA (Master of Business Administration) at Melbourne's Deakin University, which is one of only eight 5-star rated MBA courses in the country. His most likely specialisation will be Corporate Governance &/or Leadership and Communication.
At the ripe age of 8, Peter began his business career, selling newspapers on straight commission in Melbourne's Bay Street Brighton. At 15 he won a scholarship (from over 300 examined applicants) to the prestigious St. Leonards College Brighton. He had a wide variety of part time jobs at school, including paper rounds, shop assistant, working in his father's factories and an important learning stint at McDonalds.
Peter founded his first company, C.H.A. (Computer Hardware of Australia) in 1987, from his living room, starting off selling floppy disks door to door. Within weeks he was selling hard disks and printers back to his original wholesaler suppliers and within 10 years he'd built it to be Australia's largest distributor and service agent for Toshiba, Canon and Digital Equipment Corporation. C.H.A. was twice awarded Toshiba's highest award "Australasian Distributor of the Year", as well as major sales and achievement awards from other large vendors. C.H.A. grew and was profitable in every single year of its existence bar 1991 and was ISO9002 Quality Assured since 1994. C.H.A.'s major customers included HP, NEC, IBM, Telstra, Canon and over 6,000 computer dealers across Asia Pacific. In 1997 Peter sold C.H.A. to a group of investors for a 7 figure sum. At this time, its annual revenue was AUD$40 Million and had 35 employees, C.H.A.'s corporate website was first developed in 1994, making it one of the first Australian companies to have a web presence.
As General Manager of Davnet, a telecommunications company, Peter assisted with the company's public listing in 1998. Having been admitted to the ASX-200, Davnet was then acquired by a larger public company UXC. Peter was instrumental in the success of Davnet and generously rewarded for his service and contribution. Following on his success at Davnet, Peter made a number of smart investments during the tech-boom of the late 1990's and then becoming an avid "day-trader" with a massive following on the Australian stock market forums of the time. He predicted the tech market crash and got out in April 2000 securing a strong financial position with which to invest in his next start-up, Exa.
